\"\"KC and the Sunshine Band<\/strong><\/em> is an American DISCO and FUNK Band, founded in 1973 in Hialeah, Florida, by Harry Wayne Casey<\/strong><\/em>, a record store employee and part-timer at TK Records. The band took its name from lead vocalist Harry Wayne Casey’s last name (‘KC’) and the ‘Sunshine Band’ from KC’s home state of Florida, the Sunshine State. He was introduced to Richard Finch, who was engineering records for TK, and the Casey-Finch musical collaboration began.
\nIn 1975, with the release of the self-titled second album KC and the Sunshine Band, came the group’s first major U.S. hits with “Get Down Tonight<\/strong>\u201d and “That’s the Way (I Like It)<\/strong>“.
\nThe 1976 was the year of \u201cShake Your Booty<\/strong>\u201d and “I’m Your Boogie Man”.
\n\"\"“I’m Your Boogie Man<\/strong>” is a song written about a DJ at a Miami radio station, named Robert W. Walker, who was the first to give their first hit single “Get Down Tonight” airplay and KC & The Sunshine Band showed their appreciation by making a song about him, “the Boogie Man that brought all the funk and the good feeling and the vibes to the people every morning”. A lot of DJs got offended, because in the ’70s, “Boogie Man” was also a common racial insult to a black man, but they were actually an integrated band, with Finch and Casey the only white members.
\n“Please Don’t Go<\/strong>” – a love ballad released in 1979 – was the first No. 1 hit of the 1980s, on the USA Hot 100.<\/p>\n
