I Love Music Radio The Sound that makes the Difference
Was (Not Was) is an American Pop-Rock group founded in 1979 in Detroit, Michigan, by David Weiss and Don Fagenson, who adopted the stage names David Was and Don Was.
Their first album Was (Not Was) (1981) was an amalgam of Rock, Pop, Disco and Jazz. On vocals they recruited Harry Bowens and “Sweet Pea” Atkinson, who proved to be distinctive, soulful front men, who frequently found themselves singing absurdist and satirical songs, alongside tender ballads.
During 1981/82, the singles OUT COME THE FREAKS (#16) and TELL ME I’M DREAMING (#3) peaked the US Club Charts.
