George Benson “Give Me The Night”

George Washington Benson (born March 22, 1943 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) is an American guitarist, singer, and songwriter.

He was a Child Prodigy:

• At the age of 7, he first played the ukulele in a corner drug store, for which he was paid a few dollars.

• At the age of 8, he played guitar in an unlicensed nightclub on Friday and Saturday nights, but the Police soon closed the club down.

• At the age of 9, he started to record.

• At the age of 21, he began his professional career as a jazz guitarist.

Finally, in 1976, his album BREEZIN’ hit n° 1 on the USA album chart and won a Grammy Award for Record of the Year.

In 1977, he also recorded the original version of “The Greatest Love of All”, which was later covered by Whitney Houston.

In 1980, George Benson released “GIVE ME THE NIGHT” (from his album of the same title). The song was written and composed by Rod Temperton

and produced by Quincy Jones

, while Patti Austin

provided the backing vocals and Herbie Hancock

played the electric piano.

“GIVE ME THE NIGHT” was Benson’s first single to hit the Top 10 in the “Soul”, “Disco” and Best-Selling charts, all over the World.
